The final project, project three, has allowed a different side of my creativity to develop in these last weeks of the semester. Through the website, Twitter, and flyer I hoped to convey the message of my paper- that we are all witnesses of Stanislavski's work.
The first genre I chose to compose in, and the one I will be presenting to the class is a website. This website furthers the knowledge and awareness of Stanislavski through pictures, videos, and merchandise. Throughout the semester I have had practice creating in this medium. I chose to use Wix for the establishment of my website because of the familiarity I have gained with the website creator in the ENC 2135 class. Once I decided to go through with this genre, I did not stray from my decision. With this particular genre, there were many steps that went into its composition. To begin, I chose my template for my website; I went with a color scheme that would carry through all three of my genres. Next, I determined my subsections of the website. I struggled with this the most, with an abundance of information, I needed to configure an organization that would simplify a forge in concept to my audience. I continued by filling these sections up with information provided through different forms: interactive pictures, merchandise, fun facts, and videos. From there, I revised my website several times till it was pristine. The website is accessible to the entire public. This genre most closely parallels my paper, as seen in my subsections. I also decided to put the paper on the website to share my source of inspiration to share Stanislavski’s method.
The second genre I narrowed in on was a Twitter page. I have a personal twitter account and have run Twitters for clubs and events for the duration of high school. Similarly to my first genre, once I initially chose my genre, I did not change it. Creating a Twitter was not as large and complex as the compilation of the website. During this process, the most difficult was choosing a Twitter handle (username) for the account. The social media platform has many users, some of which had taken my handle ideas. Along with this complication, Twitter restricts the number of characters you may use for your username. After trying many visions, I settled on the name: “@themethodlegacy.” This name embodies the effort of spreading the knowledge of Stanislavski’s work. I believe this is also a better option than a Twitter handle with Stanislavski in it because the name Stanislavski can be intimidating and may cause a disinterest amongst the target audience. Next, in my process of creating the Twitter, I matched the color scheme and photos to the website for continuity. All three of the genres I chose work in tandem to communicate my message. From here I began tweeting. I shared tweets about the website, quotes from Stanislavski, and inspiration for actors. The twitter account is public, and therefore accessible the entire public. Although this genre does not explicitly relate to my paper on an academic level, it does further the message I anticipated to distribute to the greater public.
The third genre I focused on was a flyer. I chose to compose in this genre because my other two genre choices were electronic. For my third medium, I wanted a tactile way to connect with people. I have had experience creating flyers in the past for various school events and charity work. I used my past experiences to compose the best possible flyer for this medium. Originally, I shared with the class that I would be composing a poster. But after testing out the concept, I realized the idea I had was actually to create a flyer. A flyer could be posted anywhere easily, which was two I knew I wanted to share this genre. This particular genre stretched my creativity and marketing skills. My idea was for the poster to match the greyscale color tone I chose, but also be eye-catching enough to attract attention. For this reason, I began with the decision to have the focal point of the poster be a picture of Stanislavksi. His image is the background of the entire flyer. The picture is in black and white, which is consistent with the color scheme, and the fonts and writing are simple and convey the necessary information without crowding the flyer. The addition of the QR code is by far my favorite part of this genre. Any person passing by can pull out their phone and easily access the website without the hassle of typing the information in and double checking the extended site domain for spelling errors. The twitter can also be obtained from the website, or the handle is written out on the flyer. I posted the flyer in the Fine Arts Building on the Florida State University Campus. As this genre is the most simple, it does not convey the depths of the resource paper. But exactly like the Twitter, it remains an integral part of the effort to spread Stanislavski’s name and knowledge.
The audiences for my three genre’s work chronologically. The most direct form of “advertisement” is the flyer. The flyer is located in the Fine Arts Building at FSU, which is my specific audience for this genre. Theatre students and people directly involved in the creation and observation of art are passing through these halls constantly. I chose to target this audience, to begin with, because they will be easier to draw in than other majors on the Florida State campus. The likelihood of an individual knowing of Stanislavski is highest in this setting. My hope is for the flyers in this concentrated area to create a buzz amongst students. Once they are led to the website, they will gain a more profound knowledge of Stanislavski, so that they will be able to share what they have learned with peers. Then when they want to share information easily, the reached audience can turn to Twitter. Optimistically, the idea is for the audience to build through the chain of genres.
Through this final project, I have been able to gain a greater sense of my time management skills, which we had worked on tediously earlier in the semester with project one. I devoted a set amount of time to each genre, allowing specific time to focus on minute details that have taken my final project further creatively and academically.
